Here's a little bit more on her inspiration for this design.
"We Are Their Voice"
I wanted to create a piece that represents the connection & harmony between Earth, water, & the sky. I decided to select endangered species (but not forgetting the rest) because I wanted to raise awareness for them & remind you all that we are their voice. They cannot speak for themselves. Who will speak up for them? ⠀
The Amur leopard is one of the world's most endangered cats. They are solitary, nocturnal leopards with a wild population estimated at only over 84 individuals residing in eastern Russia & few in China. There are about 170-180 living in captivity today. ⠀
The giant ibis bird is native to the marshes & wide rivers in northern Cambodia. Only about 100 breeding pairs are left. They have declined rather rapidly due to relentless deforestation, droughts, & hunting.
Blue whale is the largest animal ever known on this planet, on an average of 80-100 feet long! Their heartbeats can be detected from 2 miles away. However, threats plague them like ship strikes & the impact of climate change. There is one population of around 2,000 off California’s coast but there are only around 10,000-25,000 left altogether in the world. ⠀
Monarch butterflies can be found in parts over the world including Australia and North Africa but are mostly found in Northern America & can travel up to 250 miles in one day! They are declining rapidly. Urban development & wildfires have destroyed overwintering sites. 62 million trees died across California in 2016 & the fires in 2018 destroyed another chunk. Illegal logging threatens their winter habitat in Mexico. Another factor is the usage of weed control on American farms & ruining their food source ( the milkweed plant). ⠀
Honeybee isn’t on the endangered list but may go extinct soon. Honeybees are important because they help pollinate food crops. If extinct, it would destroy Earth’s ecosystem & affect global food supplies. Some of the problems are linked to usage of pesticides, climate change, & habitat destruction.
I created this artwork to represent those species and in hopes to raise awareness for them. We are their voice and together, we can rise up to protect them and our beautiful, fragile world.
